Church History
In 2010 Armagh Baptist Church formed a visionary plan to plant a church in another area. At this stage Armagh had several members living in and close to Keady. After some time, Keady was highlighted as a possible location and the steps towards a new church plant began. Over the next couple of years, the church opened a Christmas shop in Keady selling books, CD’s and giving out Gospel leaflets. This helped focus prayer for the people of Keady and gave opportunity to build bridges into the community. In September 2016, monthly Sunday night meetings began in the newly built Tommy Makem Community Centre along with a monthly midweek prayer meeting and bible study. God blessed these meetings and in 2018 they increased to fortnightly with a committed group meeting on each occasion.
The vision became reality when a weekly Sunday morning service began in September 2020. This was in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, by God’s grace the church began to gather for worship. The midweek prayer meeting was increased to weekly also, establishing a strong foundation for the church family. The church grew in size at this stage with many people coming and wanting to see a church established here. By God’s continued grace and encouragement, the church constituted on September 5th 2021 as Keady Baptist Church with 23 founding members.
After this Keady Baptist Church was accepted into membership of the ‘Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland’.
We have been blessed as we think of how the Lord has led and established this Gospel-centred church here.
